The United Kingdom may join an international initiative to share US weapons purchases for Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 17, noting that the negotiations are at an early stage.
The initiative initiated with the participation of the US and Germany envisages the creation of a multilateral mechanism for supporting Ukraine through centralized purchases of weapons from the United States. Discussions are currently underway between London, Washington, Berlin and other European countries. There are no final arrangements yet, but London is actively studying the opportunity to join this scheme.
The United Kingdom Prime Minister Kir Starmer said the Government was negotiating with the Allies to ensure sufficient potential to continue Ukraine's support. He stressed that the United Kingdom intends to continue to play an active role in coordinating the efforts of international partnership in favor of Kiev.
The topic was discussed during a joint press conference by the old man with Germany by Friedrich Merz, where the parties emphasized the importance of providing uninterrupted military assistance to Ukraine in the face of prolonged aggression by Russia.
The UK's involvement in this scheme can be a new stage in strengthening transatlantic cooperation. Earlier, the United States has already stated the need to attract additional sources of financing to support Ukraine's defense capability, in particular through the mechanisms of direct supply of weapons or payment of US manufacturers' contracts by NATO partners.
London is traditionally one of the key allies of Ukraine in the issue of weapons supply, but expanding participation in joint procurement can allow much more efficient use of resources and coordinate deliveries at a strategic level.
