Daily walking for over 78 minutes helps prevent back pain - study from Norway
The habit of walking a lot can be an effective prevention of chronic lower back pain. This is evidenced by a large -scale population research conducted in Norway, the results of which are published in the journal of health. According to scientists, in order to significantly reduce the risk of developing chronic back pain, it is enough to walk for more than 78 minutes a day - even at a slow pace.
The study was attended by more than 11 thousand adult Norwegians. During the week, the participants wore special accelerometers on the thigh and waist, which made it possible to accurately measure the volume and intensity of their daily physical activity. At the same time chronic was considered pain in the lower back, which lasted more than three months in a row.
The results showed that people who went from 78 to 100 minutes a day reduced the risk of back pain by 13 percent. Those who exceeded 100 minutes of daily walking reduced the risk by 23 percent. Walking intensity also had a positive effect, but less pronounced than the total duration.
The head of the research group Ryan Haddj of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology stressed that the volume of daily walking plays a more important role than the average intensity in reducing the risk of chronic lumbar pain.
These conclusions add weight to the recommendations of doctors for regular physical activity. In particular, a regular walk is an accessible and effective way to prevent one of the most common sources of discomfort in adulthood.
