Nissan does not intend to rush to make an electric version of his pickup Frontier, despite the expectations of dealers and consumers.
During a conversation with Nissan executives at Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, it became clear that the company was in no hurry to implement the electrical variants of its pickups. Priority is considered to be electrification of other large segments, such as SUV and crossovers.
According to Pierre Luan, Nissan Vice President for Product Planning, the main thing is to understand the consumer properly and act at the right time. He believes that buyers of pickups, which often need towing and transportation of goods, are not ready to switch to electric machines until the stock is improved.
Nissan has a complex relationship with the truck market in North America. Despite the decision to stop the production of full -size Titan trucks after 2024, the company does not plan to retreat in the segment of medium -size trucks. Creating a hybrid version of Frontier pickup with a cross -location engine on the frame also causes difficulties, and the company is not yet ready to invest in the electrification of its truck line.
According to Ivan Espinos, the senior Vice President of Nissan Global Planning, you need to wait for the right moment for both customers and the company. Nissan recognizes the importance of the US truck market and studies the possibility of introducing new products, including the creation of a compact truck that could be more affordable than Frontier.
Despite this, the plans for the electrification of the Nissan truck line remain uncertain, and the company is waiting for the right time to make changes.
