Following the accusations of involvement in Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 last year, the UN Agency to assist Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) quickly took up the action, freeing up all employees suspected of involvement in these events. This was reported by the head of Filipa Lazarini in an interview with the Japanese edition of NHK.
"The agency is serious about the accusations of Israel of the involvement of some of our employees in Hamas attacks on October 7 and took quick measures, releasing the suspects before the results of the independent investigation were published," Lazarini said.
According to him, ten suspects were released from the investigated and two died.
Lazarini also expressed serious concern about the possible offensive of Israeli troops on the city of Rafach in the Gaza sector, where more than one million people live.
"The decision of a dozen countries, including Japan, suspend UNRWA funding can significantly complicate our ability to respond to urgent needs, since the available funds will be enough only until the end of February," he added, expressing hope for the restoration of funding after the results of the investigation.
At the same time, the Israeli government demands the cessation of UNRWA in Gaza after the involvement of the agency's employees in the terrorist attack of Hamas fighters on Israel last October. This has led to the termination of UNRWA financing by the US and other countries.
The tahal stated that one of Hamas's main team points was in a tunnel, partially located under UNRWA headquarters in gas.
