AliExpress is threatening a billional fine in the EU because of a violation of digital legislation

The European Commission has completed a preliminary investigation into the Chinese AliExpress e -commerce platform and found serious violations of the digital service rules on digital services (DSA). This is stated in a statement published on the official website of the European Commission.

In particular, AliExpress is accused of spreading illegal content and goods such as illegal medicines, dangerous food additives, adult products, as well as materials that potentially threaten users' safety. The European Commission notes that the platform does not comply with the requirements for the detection and reduction of digital risks, and also demonstrates inefficiency in content moderation and responding to violations of rules.

In addition, the audit revealed that the control mechanisms on the platform allow unscrupulous sellers to bypass the established standards, and the detection systems of harmful content were ineffective. As a result, Aliexpress does not perform the responsibilities of ensuring the transparency of the algorithms and recommendations provided for by law.

Despite previously undertaken, the platform has not demonstrated significant progress. Under DSA terms, large online platforms can be fined up to 6% of their global annual turnover for non-compliance. For Aliexpress, which is part of the technological giant Alibaba Group, it is about potentially billions of losses.

Aliexpress has the right to defense and can challenge the conclusions of the European Commission. However, if the facts of the violations are confirmed, the platform may face large -scale financial and reputational consequences.
