The head of the Servant of the People's faction, David Arahamia, denied the information widespread by The Economist , about a meeting at the Presidential Office, which was devoted to preparation for the parliamentary elections in Ukraine. The statement that appeared in the media caused a wave of discussions among Ukrainian politicians, but the official position of the faction did not change, and Arahamia stressed that such a meeting was not held.
In a comment for public ahamia, he categorically denied the fact of the meeting in the President's office. According to him, at no meeting on the preparation for the elections, he did not participate, and at all such a meeting did not exist. The position of the "servant of the people" faction remains unchanged: the elections should only take place after the martial law has been removed, and this issue is not discussed.
"No elections are being prepared, no preparation is being done. Parliamentary parties and groups agreed that elections should take place six months after the removal of martial law. And in principle, our position has not changed," Arahamia said.
David Arahamia expressed confidence that such information is the result of misunderstanding or distortion. He added that such statements do not correspond to the official position of the faction and the government, which clearly determined that elections can only take place after the martial law in the country.
Elections in Ukraine, according to Arahamia, can only be prescribed after the martial law has been removed, which is a determining factor for their conduct. Ukrainian political parties and groups have already reached consensus on this position, and today there is no reason to change.
An important aspect of this discussion is also the question when it can be removed. Currently, given the continuation of the war with Russia, the restoration of peaceful order in Ukraine is not forecast in the coming months. Therefore, the issue of holding the elections, as Arahamia emphasizes, is such that it will only be on the agenda only after stabilization of the situation in the country.
The response of the opposition political forces to election statements also did not wait. Some opposition representatives stated that they will readily respond to any attempt to postpone the election or influence their terms. In particular, some oppositionists drew attention to the need to preserve democratic standards and attempt to provide full -fledged access of citizens to voting, even in martial law.
However, none of the political forces currently have been demanding early elections. The majority agrees that the election should take place provided that the situation in the country will allow them to be conducted without threat to citizens or security.
