In Normandy, in the north of France, there was a violent incident when armed intruders attacked prison convoy in an attempt to release the prisoner. During the attack, they killed two guards and wounded three more. The attackers have not yet been caught.
French Justice Minister Eric Dupon-Moretti noted that such events are very rare for the region. The incident occurred during the transport of prisoner from court to a neighboring prison.
The video from the scene shows how a black SUV, which was entered under fire, crashed into a prison van on the highway. The photos show two people in hooded weapons.
This incident is the first in the last 30 years when the death of a French prison worker in a similar situation took place. The dead guard remained with his wife and two children, while the other had a wife who was in the fifth month of pregnancy.
The ambush attackers have not yet been detained. An active search for attackers and a prisoner, 30-year-old Mohammed Amra is being conducted, who was in custody for theft of breaking and kidnapping associated with death.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the national gendarmerie and hundreds of police were involved in search operations. Currently, the authorities have installed checkpoints at the scene.
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the authorities are doing everything possible to identify and prosecute those who are guilty of this crime to ensure justice in the name of the French people.
