Austrian Chancellor Carl Nevammer stated that his country is ready to become a place for peace talks in order to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. The initiative was made during a conversation with the newly elected US President Donald Trump on November 25.
According to the Chancellor, during a telephone conversation, Trump asked him about the situation in the war, given that the nerdammer had the opportunity to meet personally with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After discussing politics, they quickly moved to the importance of the war.
"We have discussed how important peace is, how much it is necessary for the war to stop. I suggested Austria as a neutral site for negotiations. We are ready to promote peaceful settlement," the Negammer said.
Austria, which retains neutral status in international conflicts, has repeatedly acted as a mediator in diplomatic talks. Negammer noted that Donald Trump was emotionally and positively about the end of the war and expressed interest in the early reached of peace.
It should be noted that this initiative occurs against the background of new geopolitical ambitions of Russia. The Kremlin is trying to get more territories to the inauguration of the new US President, which can affect possible negotiations.
"Donald Trump was well informed about Vienna's position and has perceived our proposal with understanding. We hope that our neutral territory will become a good negotiating platform," the Nevemmer added.
Austria's peace initiatives and the willingness of the US President to facilitate the resolution of the conflict can be important steps towards the end of the war. However, whether this plan can be implemented - will depend on the parties to the parties for dialogue.
