Airline ends free hand luggage: what it means for passengers

The first airline has decided to stop free hand luggage in order to increase profits from tourists. The new rules are being introduced by the KM Malta airline, which plans to transport European tourists to Malta starting in 2024.

According to the European press, tourists were surprised by the announcement of the new carrier that the cheapest economy fares practically do not include free hand luggage. The carrier offered four economy fares, and only the more expensive ones, such as economy plus and economy flexible, allowed free carry-on baggage weighing up to 10 kg.

Travelers choosing Basic Economy Class and Standard Economy Class will find that they are only allowed 2kg of free cabin baggage at the time of booking. The remaining 10 kg can be taken only if an additional fee is paid and placed in the hold.

Tourists express their dissatisfaction and actively criticize the company. "This is absurd. It is impossible to go even for the weekend with 2 kg of hand luggage," said one of the travelers. "It's just a lie. Such a tariff is needed only in order to attract you with its cheapness, and then charge additional funds," users write.
