The Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Shtokker has announced plans to significantly increase the country's defense expenses by 2032. According to his application at a briefing before the beginning of the European Council meeting in Brussels on March 20, Austria intends to spend 2% of its gross domestic product (GDP) on defense, which will be an important step towards strengthening European security.
"We set an ambitious goal to increase our defensive costs to 2% of GDP by 2032, despite the need to reduce the budget deficit," the Shtokker said. This step is part of a broader country strategy aimed at strengthening Europe's defense capability in modern global challenges.
The plug emphasized that in the current turbulent times it is important to demonstrate the unity and willingness for decisive action by the European Union. One of the key issues of the agenda in Brussels - ensuring the defense and security of Europe - is becoming increasingly important.
"The strategic situation is changing and we must act in view of new challenges. We must take our safety in our own hands, and Austria will contribute to our neutrality," the Chancellor added.
