In the latest edition of The Wall Street Journal, it is emphasized that US President Joe Biden has changed his attitude towards supporting Ukraine, which has caused a new conflict between Republicans and the administration. This development may have a significant impact on future US policy in the context of the war in Ukraine.
"The administration refuses to talk to Congress and the American public about its strategy for winning the conflict. As part of the draft law on additional funding for Ukraine this year, Congress required the Biden administration to present a strategy for American aid, which must be developed within 45 days," the publication writes, noting that the strategy was presented only "several months after the deadline set by Congress."
Moreover, the document was completely classified by Biden.
"Republican lawmakers are calling on the administration to release an unclassified version, as required by Congress, so the public can read the document and debate its merits," the paper said, noting that the strategy is unlikely to be declassified.
“Public release could mean Vice President Kamala Harris will have to explain her stance on the conflict before the election. As long as she doesn't, and the administration hides the strategy, Harris will share Biden's record for confusing half-measures," writes The Wall Street Journal.
"Biden's team covers itself with platitudes like supporting Ukraine "as much as it takes", which is not a strategy. This has long since become a rhetorical evasion. But Republicans in Congress are right to insist that the administration formulate a broader theory of how Ukraine can use aid to regain momentum and win back new territory from Putin. The stalemate on the battlefield has given rise to public skepticism in the US, which threatens the continuation of American support regardless of who wins the presidential race," the newspaper writes.
