In the territorial waters of France, at considerable depth, a unique archeological find was found - a shopping vessel of the 16th century. According to Franceinfo , the ship was discovered during the Navy in March, but officially announced only on June 12, at the UN Conference on the Ocean held in Nice.
A ship, which is approximately 30 by 7 meters, was found at a depth of 2567 meters near the Ramatwell Commune, in the Provence region - Alps - Azure Beach. This makes it the deepest discovered ship in the French waters. La Minerve submarine , found at a depth of 2300 meters in 2019.
According to preliminary data, a vessel is a vessel - a merchant ship of North Italian origin, which transported ceramics and other goods. In the released pictures taken by the France's underwater archaeological research, you can see the remains of a vessel body, a cargo of ceramics - including plates and jugs with ornaments, as well as six iron guns.
At the same time, along with historical artifacts at the bottom of the sea, archaeologists have discovered modern garbage-cans of drinks and plastic packaging from yoghurts, which clearly demonstrates the extent of oceans pollution even at considerable depths.
Scientists plan to continue their research in 2026. In particular, the creation of a 3D ship model, as well as sampling to determine the causes of flooding and accurate origin of the vessel, is planned.
This discovery is already called one of the most important underwater archaeological events of recent years in Europe.
