Bill Gates, started construction of the first in the United States and the world of a nuclear power plant on sodium reactors. It is planned that the station will function until 2030.
Last month, the US Nuclear Regulation Commission approved the Terrapower, owned by Bill Gates, for the construction of a new generation of a nuclear power plant. This is the first commercial project using non -fitting reactors in the US for the last 40 years. The headquarters of the most modern nuclear installation in the world will be located in the city of Kemmer, Wyoming.
This week, Terrapower has started construction of a future nuclear power plant on sodium reactors called Natrium. The first step is to create a test set for sodium reactors, which will use liquid sodium to cool the nuclear reactor. The construction process envisages work over the following years to start the power plant by 2030. During this period, Terrapower will also continue the construction of the non -nuclear components of the station. Next year, the construction of the Energy Island is planned, where steam turbines and other electricity production equipment will be installed.
Bill Gates emphasized in his blog that projects of this scale can be complex and risky, but they are extremely important for the future society.
