The White House decided to deprive the journalists of the Associated Press (AP) access to the Oval Cabinet and the President of the US. It happened after AP refused to change its terminology, in particular, about the geographical name of the Gulf of American, which caused a dispute with President's administration Joe Biden.
The deputy head of the White House apparatus Taylor Badovich explained the decision, stating that AP continues to ignore official changes in the names, which, in his opinion, contributes to split and misinformation. In his post, Badovich emphasized that although freedom of speech is an important right, it does not guarantee journalists unimpeded access to the oval office or on a presidential plane. At the same time, the agency journalists retain the passes to visit other parts of the White House.
Despite the criticism of the White House, Associated Press, as one of the largest news agencies in the world, continues to use international terminology, which often does not coincide with the administration's policy.
The White House Association has already expressed its dissatisfaction with such a step, noting that it violates the first amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and the press. It is also a concern for future relations between the government and the press in the country.
