US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that a final decision on the end of the war in Ukraine should not be expected in the near future, but there is a possibility of reaching an agreement on a ceasefire. According to Blinken, this process should take place from a position of strength to ensure lasting peace and prevent further aggressive actions by Russia.
"Peace must be achieved from a position of strength," Blinken emphasized, pointing to the importance of reaching an agreement on a ceasefire, which will become the basis for further negotiations. However, he added that a final decision on the status of the temporarily occupied territories is unlikely to be reached in the near future. The head of the US State Department noted that any ceasefire must be accompanied by a reliable deterrent, as Russia can use the pause to rest and rearm.
"Putin will use any ceasefire to rest and start attacks again," Blinken said, emphasizing the need for reliable monitoring of the implementation of the agreement.
At the same time, Blinken expressed confidence that the policy of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi will correspond to the beliefs of the Ukrainian people and is aimed at ensuring a just peace. However, he emphasized that the process of negotiations and the search for a solution to the conflict may be delayed due to the complexity of the issue of the status of the occupied territories.
