Recent events in world politics are forcing the realities of relations between Ukraine and the United States. The departure of Donald Trump's administration from traditional Kiev support, freezing military assistance and diplomatic pressure on Ukraine raise many questions. Is this a betrayal of an ally? Is this a natural result of America's political pragmatism?
The US is primarily cared for their own interests: Donald Trump is the US President, not Ukraine. Its main task is to fulfill the election promises to the American people, not to protect the interests of other countries. Ukraine is little known to American voters. For many, it is "far away" and they do not want to spend money to support someone else's war. The pressure on the weaker side. Since Russia is too strong opponent, Trump chooses a simpler way - to press on Ukraine, forcing it to agree to the "peace" on its own conditions. Europe will not replace America. European countries do not have sufficient resources to quickly compensate for the loss of American assistance. The EU's military industry is not ready for a sharp increase in production, and Ukraine has no time to wait several years until the European defense sphere is adapting. History knows many cases where the United States left their partners at a critical time: the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam in 1975 left hundreds of thousands of allies for the enemy's mercy. Exit from Afghanistan in 2021 demonstrated that US political interests could change rapidly. Washington's promises have a conditional shelf life - and Ukraine now feels it. There is a version that Ukraine is only the first stage. Some experts believe that after pressure on Kyiv, the US may start a rigid game against the Kremlin. But so far, the whole weight of "coercion to peace" lies in Ukraine.
Is it possible to withstand this pressure? Yes, but the consequences should be realistic.
Refusing compromise can be very expensive - without US weapons and explored Armed Forces, it will be difficult to keep the front. Ukraine should draw conclusions - geopolitics has no friends, there are only interests.
If the US continues such a policy, it can destroy their international authority. Trust in America as a global leader weakens, and with it - the dollar. However, the last hope remains - that Trump has a clear strategy, and its current actions are only part of the larger plan.
