Britain's foreign secretary, David Cameron, has expressed concern over the possibility of the US Congress refusing further military aid to Ukraine, saying such a move would be a "Christmas present" for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Cameron expressed his fear that in case of refusal of financial aid to Ukraine, "only two people will smile: one of them is Vladimir Putin in Russia, the other is Xi Jinping in Beijing." The politician believes that such a step carries the risk of a negative impact on the support of European countries, which may lose interest in providing aid.
"The impact of this vote in Congress will be huge because it will give those of us who really want to support Ukraine next year the opportunity to go to all the other European countries and say, 'Yes, you saw what the US did, now we all need to get on board.' ", Cameron noted.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of unity in the financial support of Ukraine and the definition of clear strategies aimed at the destruction of Russian military capabilities. According to him, the financial efforts of the Allies have already brought results, destroying a significant part of Russia's pre-war assets.
"Let's make Putin lose," Cameron urged, stressing that coordination and defined strategies are key to success in this tense conflict.
The need for support from the US is identified as a critical element for expressing solidarity and support in Ukraine, which, according to Cameron, is strategically important in the context of the geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe.
