Congress passed an act obliging Biden to provide weapons to Israel

The House of Representatives of the United States, where the majority belongs to the Republicans, on Thursday, May 16, adopted a bill to pressure President Joe Baiden to provide Israeli military assistance.

The Israeli Security Support Law received 224 votes against 187, mainly on party lines. Sixteen Democrats joined the Republicans in the vote for "for", while three Republicans joined the Democrats in the vote against.

Although the likelihood that this law will become a law, its adoption emphasized deep political differences in the United States, especially in connection with Israel's policy in the period before the Presidential Election.

Republicans believe that this is their attempt to take revenge on the democrats for recent suspension by Biden by Baiden Bombs' supply for civilian protection in the Gaza sector.

"This is a catastrophic solution with global consequences. Obviously, this is done for political reasons, and we cannot allow it," said the speaker of the House of Representatives from the Republican Party Mike Johnson at a press conference on Wednesday.

Democrats, instead, have accused opponents of a political game and claim that Republicans distort Biden's position on Israel.

"This is not a serious legislative initiative, so some of the most proselyl members of the democratic faction in the House of Representatives will vote against," said Democrats leader in the House of Representatives Hakim Jefris at a press conference before voting.

With regard to US military assistance for Israel, the country has been receiving significant support for decades. In late April, Congress approved a $ 26 billion military aid package, which became part of a total package of $ 95.3 billion.

However, Baiden's administration began to criticize Israel for mass sacrifices among civilians in the Gaza Sector during a military operation. This led to the suspension of the 2000-funta Tel Aviv (907 kg) and 500-funta bombs.

However, on Tuesday, May 14, the US State Department submitted to Congress a package of armed assistance of Israel worth $ 1 billion.
