This is the first time Iran has fired at Israel from its own territory

It will be recalled that this five-hour attack was a response to the recent shelling by Israel of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, where one of the Iranian generals was killed.

Israel says more than 200 drones and missiles have been launched. At the same time, the New York Times reports that there were more than 300 of them - about 185 drones, 110 surface-to-surface missiles and 36 cruise missiles.

Most of them were launched from Iran, but some also from Iraq and Yemen. Biden said that the missiles also came from Syria.

By now the attack is over, the Israelis have come out of hiding.

Israel claims to have shot down most of the targets mid-flight, but there were "a small number of strikes" on its own territory.

One of them hit an IDF base in southern Israel (on video), where one person was injured, and "infrastructure was slightly damaged."

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for its part, said it had "successfully destroyed" important military targets in Israel.

Western media reports that the US helped repulse the air attack. According to the CBS TV channel, the Americans shot down several Iranian drones.

Biden said that the US helped Israel destroy almost all drones and missiles (without specifying how).

On Sunday, a meeting of the UN Security Council will be held regarding the escalation in the Middle East. Biden will also convene the G7 leaders "to coordinate a unified diplomatic response to Iran's brazen attack."

At the same time, the American mass media write with reference to the head of the Pentagon, Austin, that Washington is not looking for a conflict with Tehran. And Biden, during a telephone conversation with Netanyahu, allegedly made it clear that the US would not participate in offensive operations against Iran.

But Israel itself has already promised a "significant and powerful" response to this attack, the Ynet website reported.

Tehran said that in this case "Iran's response will certainly be stronger and more decisive."
