In the light of the statements of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the expected support from the United States, the State Department expressed its position, emphasizing that the US executive power is on the side of Ukraine, but the final decision should be made by Congress.
US Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing that the US administration is ready to support Ukraine financially, but at the moment there is only one package of assistance that can be provided this year. He also stated that the issue of additional security assistance after this year was resolved at the Congress level.
"We (the executive) are absolutely supporting Ukraine. We are absolutely ready to support additional funding for Ukraine. We have one package that we can provide Ukraine this year, and then we will exhaust our opportunities for providing additional security assistance, so I think that this issue is a matter of Congress," Miller said.
He also noted the urgency of the decision, arguing that Congress should decide on Ukraine by the end of the year, as Ukrainians face difficult winter conditions.
"We want him (the bill of the US President) to be adopted by the end of this year. It remains our goal and our priority. Congress will have to decide whether they are going to support Ukraine and provide funding necessary for resistance to the Russian invasion, since we will not be a very difficult thing.
Miller emphasized that Presidential Baiden's Presidential Administration has no alternative plan to assist Ukraine, and called on Congress to act immediately before entering the difficult period.
