Erdogan is preparing to negotiate with Trump

Turkish President Recep TaiP Erdogan intends to meet US President Donald Trump in the White House in April. About it reports Bloomberg, referring to its sources.

The main purpose of the meeting, according to the media, is to strengthen the strategic partnership between Ankara and Washington. Turkey seeks to strengthen its status as a leading mediator in conflict settlement, in particular Ukraine and Syria.

The Erdogan administration refrained from comments on the future meeting.

The telephone conversation between the leaders took place on Sunday, March 16. During the conversation, Erdogan urged Trump to cancel sanctions imposed on the Turkish defense industry during Trump's first presidential term. The sanctions were imposed through the purchase of Turkey of Russian air defense systems C-400.

Erdogan also asked to include Turkey in the F-35 fighter fighter development program and complete the new F-16 sale agreement.

Erdogan's appeal to the United States occurs against Turkey's desire for closer defensive and economic cooperation with the EU. At the same time, European countries are looking for ways to reduce Washington dependence.

The planned meeting can be a key to improving Turkey and the US relationship and affecting regional stability.
