Estonia strengthens the border with Russia

Estonia considers the possibility of using mines on its border with Russia in the event of a war that will become part of the country's overall defense strategy. This was stated by a representative of the engineering troops of Estonia forces Estonia Ainar Afanasiev.

According to him, the crisis period is planned to use explosive barriers, mines and other explosive devices, as well as the destruction of strategically important objects such as bridges and pipelines. To implement these measures, Estonia intends to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti -personnel mines.

Already this year in Estonia will begin to build a line of defense. The first stronghold of 14 bins in the northeast of the country will appear in the fall, and four more shelters will be installed in the southeast. The shelters will be designed to hold artillery shelling, including the hit of 152 mm shells. The tests of structures are already ongoing, and by the beginning of summer the government should choose the most effective option.

A total of 600 shelters are planned, some of which will be located on private lands. Their construction will take into account the experience of war in Ukraine, including protection against drones with the help of special nets and other technologies. In addition, anti -tank barriers and firing positions will be erected on the border with Russia.

Estonia is not the only country that considers the possibility of mining the border with Russia. Similar events are planned by Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and Poland. In particular, Poland wants to establish mine barriers not only on the border with Russia, but also with Belarus, seeing in it an ally of Moscow, which can be a threat to the security of the region.

These measures are a response to increasing tension in Eastern Europe and the threat of possible hostilities. Estonia and its allies seek to create an effective defensive line that will complicate any potential aggressive actions by Russia.
