The threat to the gambling business, the Philippines arose against the background of Thailand's intentions to legalize the casino. Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp Chairman Alehandro Ten Sengko noted that the news on the legalization of casino in Thailand increases competition in the region that threatens the Philippine position in the gambling market.
According to him, in 2024, the Philippine gambling sector brought an agency 410 billion pesos (more than $ 7 billion). However, given that Thailand has more tourists, its potential to attract players and investors is increasing.
The Casino Legalization Bill in Thailand was adopted by the government in January 2025. Officials of the country are convinced that gambling legalization will help stimulate the tourism industry and bring significant income for the state. It is noted that only certain types of gambling such as state jumps and lotteries have been allowed in Thailand.
