The French Ambassador to Ukraine Gael Weisser stated that Paris openly supported the idea of inviting Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance. According to him, the position of France on this issue was voiced before the Washington summit and remains unchanged.
"France has no problems with supporting the idea of inviting Ukraine to NATO. We have talked about it in public, and this remains our position," the diplomat said.
At the same time, the Ambassador stressed that the final decision on Ukraine's membership in NATO should make all the Alliance Member States with consensus.
Weissier also drew attention to the importance of developing security guarantees for Ukraine both within NATO and beyond. In his opinion, this is necessary in order for the Alliance to be prepared for any development and to help Ukraine as much as possible.
"We need to think about how these guarantees can work to be prepared for any situation," the Ambassador of France added.
The ambassador's statement emphasizes the continued support of Ukraine by France on its Euro -Atlantic integration and security, but also reminds of the complexity of the NATO decision -making process.
