France plans to set aside 10% of its territory for biodiversity protection

France is taking decisive measures to protect biodiversity, taking 10% of the country's territory for reliable protection, according to the new strategy by 2030, represented by Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne. The event is intended to stop the observed destructive effect on the flora and fauna.

The strategy that has been expected for two years includes a number of measures to protect and restore natural areas on land and in the marine environment. According to the Bourne announcement, the main purpose is to consolidate the environmental transition in everyday life.

The strategy is based on the Kunmin-Monoreal Agreement concluded at the COP15 biodiversity conference, and the EU biodiversity strategy by 2030, which provides for 30% of land and oceans, 30% of degraded ecosystems and reducing the use of pesticides by 50%.

According to the UN biodiversity and ecosystems intergovernmental and ecosystems, one million species in the world are endangered, and three of the four land ecosystems are considered degraded. France, in the sixth place in the world in the number of species that are at risk, decided to take specific measures.

Of the 40 initiatives provided by the Strategy, the Government plans to increase the area of territories under "strong protection", from less than 5% to 10% by 2030. Also, a key point for the marine environment is the complete protection of marine waters and mainland glaciers by 2030, which is a change of 60%.

Other measures include the fight against reclamation, plastic contamination and underwater noise, limiting the imports of products that lead to deforestation, reduction of light contamination and limiting the use of pesticides.

The government plans to plant 50,000 kilometers of live weave and create 50,000 hectares of wetland every year to achieve this goal. In total, 120,000 hectares of natural areas will be restored annually, reducing their destruction.

In order to implement these measures, the Government allocates an "unprecedented" budget of 1 billion euros in 2024, which is 250 million more than in the previous year. To support these measures, it is planned to create 141 new workplace in government agencies and expand the powers of 1,700 state environmental inspectors.

Although the strategy presented in July last year has criticized the "parties and incompleteness" of ambitions, it defines specific steps to preserve the biodiversity and natural resources of France.
