A French general expressed concern about NATO's ability to respond to a Russian attack

The French General Bertrand Tuj expressed anxiety about NATO's ability to respond adequately to a potential attack by Russia.

In an interview with Politico, he noted that the Alliance has serious problems with the overturning of heavy equipment and troops through "administrative red tape", which can significantly complicate prompt actions in the event of exacerbation of the situation in the East.

According to him, the movement of equipment during the Cold War was much easier in Europe. Tyua noted that if Russia has an attack on NATO countries, other Europeans and Americans will have to transfer troops to the eastern flank as soon as possible.

But in practice, this is complicated by prolonged and disparate administrative processes, not adapted to move equipment through infrastructure and lack of transport capabilities.

The general also recalled that in early 2022, Europe really realized how difficult the process of moving equipment could be.

"We have found the scale of administrative red tape. There is a war in Ukraine, but customs explain that you do not have the right tonnage on the axis and that your tanks are not allowed to cross the border of Germany," he said.
