Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, Chief of Staff of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), said that the terrorist organization Hamas regrets the start of the conflict with Israel and postponed the ground offensive for "strategic reasons". He clarified that the IDF is ready for a ground operation, but the decision regarding its form and timing will be made together with the political leadership.
Halevi noted that there are tactical and strategic considerations that delay a ground offensive, but that it allows for more thorough preparation. He stressed the importance of Hamas treating Israeli citizens held hostage with respect and noted that the IDF is fighting Hamas, not the people of Gaza.
Gallant, Israel's defense minister, announced the IDF's readiness for a ground operation in the Gaza Strip, calling it a "deadly" attack. He called on the military to remain ready for an offensive and assured that it would take place.
IDF International Representative Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said the war would end if Hamas "surrenders unconditionally."
