The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, will visit Kyiv to commemorate the Maidan

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, plans to visit Kiev early next week, according to information from Politico, RBC-Ukraine reports.

This visit is defined as an important event in memory of the beginning of protests on the Maidan, which began on November 21, 2013. Protests arose after the refusal of the then President Viktor Yanukovych to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union.

According to sources, this visit is preceded by a European Council summit planned for the middle of December, which will discuss the European Commission's recommendation for the official start of Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Last week, the European Commission published a report that recognized the progress of Ukraine and other candidate countries to access the EU. It is stated that Ukraine has fulfilled 90% of the conditions for starting negotiations.

However, it should be noted that Hungary has already expressed its confrontation with respect to Ukraine's accession to the EU. This will be one of the key topics of discussion at the future summit.
