The head of the US State Department Marco Rubio will visit Brussels from April 2 to April 4 to participate in the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting. This was reported by a spokeswoman for the State Department of Temma Bruce.
One of the main topics of discussion will be to ensure a long peace in Ukraine. The participants of the meeting will consider further military and economic support of Kyiv, as well as strategies for strengthening Ukraine's defense capability in the conditions of continuing Russian aggression. Ministers will also affect the supply of weapons, training of Ukrainian military and long -term security guarantees for Ukraine.
The parties will also consider increasing the Alliance's investments in defense. It is expected that the question of the fulfillment of member states on defense costs of at least 2% of GDP, which was a key requirement by the US and other allies.
In addition to the Ukrainian question, considerable attention will be paid to the threat that China is for the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Regions. NATO is concerned about China's cooperation with Russia and its efforts to strengthen military presence in world strategic points. Ministers will discuss measures to restrain Chinese influence and coordinate actions with partners in Asia, in particular with Japan, South Korea and Australia.
Another important topic of discussion will be the preparation for the NATO summit, which will take place this summer in the Hague. It plans to reconcile further steps to enhance the alliance's defense, support of partners and identify strategic priorities for the coming years. One of the key topics of the summit will also be the role of European countries in general security architecture and strengthening transatlantic ties.
