Only a third of Austrians were willing to defend the country with weapons in their hands

Approximately 31% of the Austrians expressed their readiness to defend their country with weapons in their hands in the event of a military attack, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Market Institut sociological service at the request of the Ministry of Defense of Austria.

According to the study, a little less than one -third of the population expressed their willingness to take their weapons to protect the country, while 58% of respondents opposed it.

Regarding the specific answers to the willingness to defend Austria with weapons in their hands in the event of a military attack, only 15% of respondents responded “yes”, and 16% expressed “rather”. On the other hand, 43% of those polled answered "no", and another 15% said "rather than".

According to the survey, more than two -thirds of the Austrians are positive about the Armed Forces, believing that their main mission is the protection of the country from military attack and evacuation of citizens from crisis zones. According to 85% of respondents, the main task of the Armed Forces in Austria should be the elimination of the consequences of natural catastrophes in the country.

Austria's triple status is recognized as important to three quarters of the population, with 55% of respondents feel “quite safe”.
