Innovative magnets from volunteers: extraction of fragments from lungs and heart became possible

The Kremenchuk Volunteer Group has developed innovative magnetic surgical tools that allow you to effectively extract the smallest fragments.

The first of the created magnetic instruments was called "Edelweiss", in honor of a mountain flower, which symbolizes stability and fearlessness. This magnetic scalpel weighs 212 grams, its body is made of stainless steel, and in the handle are a neodymium magnet and two variable nozzles. Using it, doctors can search for fragments and diagnosis of the patient, as well as enter the wound channels and remove the fragments without the need to make large incisions on the body of the wounded.

The second tool, named "White Angel", is specifically designed to remove fragments at a depth of more than 5 cm. The weight of this tool is only 35 grams, and it is ideal for extracting fragments from different organs, such as liver, lungs, heart and abdominal cavity.

Oleg Bykov, the head of the Kremenchuk Volunteer Defense Staff, explains that the development of these tools began during a full -scale invasion, when the number of cases of shrapnel wounds increased. Cooperating with surgeons and listening to their advice, volunteers have created modern tools that help doctors effectively extract the fragments and perform the necessary procedures. Magnets are made at enterprises in different areas, and their cost is estimated at about 10 thousand hryvnias for one tool.

For almost two years of the Great War, volunteers have already sent more than 800 such magnetic instruments to military and civilian doctors, which helps to improve medical care.
