Iran and Russia plan to conclude a new strategic partnership agreement, which will replace the current 20-year agreement between countries. The signing may take place on the eve of the inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, namely at the end of January.
The updated agreement shall be reported to ensure the obligations of the parties to closely cooperate in the field of defense, as well as on regional and global security. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously stated that the document is intended to strengthen cooperation between countries in the conditions of growing challenges in the international arena.
This initiative testifies to the desire of the two states to combine efforts against the background of political and economic pressure from the West. According to information, the contract will be a logical extension of the strategic partnership, drawn up in 2001 and extended in 2020.
Iran and Russia are actively developing cooperation in various fields, including energy, defense and trade. The new treaty can strengthen this cooperation by focusing on interaction in the face of global geopolitical changes.
