Official Tehran sent Washington a response to US President Donald Trump's letter, in which he demanded the restoration of negotiations on a new nuclear agreement. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Iran Abbas Arakchi in a comment to Iranian agency IRNA.
According to him, the answer was transferred through the corresponding diplomatic channel through the Oman.
Arakchi stressed that Iran will disagree with Washington's direct negotiations while the country is undergoing "maximum pressure" and military threats. At the same time, he noted that indirect contacts between the parties can continue as it happened earlier.
Earlier, the Trump administration has repeatedly stated the need to revise the nuclear agreement concluded in 2015 in order to strengthen the control over the Iran nuclear program. However, Tehran insists on compliance with the current arrangements and refuses to negotiate under pressure from sanctions and threats.
The situation around the Iranian nuclear program remains tense, and the lack of direct negotiations between the US and Iran can further complicate the diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
