Spain gradually restores power supply after mass failure

Spain declared a state of emergency due to a large -scale blackout that paralyzed the country on April 28. This was reported by the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Reuters reports.

Emergency will be applied in regions that have officially applied to the Central Government for help. Among them are Madrid, Andalusia and Estremadura. 30,000 police officers were involved in the injured regions.

The Red Electrica (REE) national operator has reported that more than 20% of power supply had been restored by the evening. "The supply of electricity is gradually recovering in all areas of the country," the company said.

According to the Spanish media, electricity supply has been partially restored in Catalonia, Aragon, Basque, Galicia, Valencia and a number of other regions.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed that the reason for the shutdown was still being established, and called for citizens to use phones economically because of a tense situation on telecommunications networks. He also noted that the biggest losses had suffered rail, but there is no threat to public security.

Oscar Transport Minister Puente stressed that the main priority was to assist passengers who were stuck on trains through a traffic stop.

Mass power outage also caused interruptions in public transport, banking systems, shops, airports and mobile communications.

According to the Portuguese operator Redes Energéticas Nacionais (Ren), the problems were caused by a "rare atmospheric phenomenon". Due to the extreme temperature fluctuations in Spain, anomalous power fluctuations occurred on high -voltage lines, which affected not only Spain and Portugal, but also other European countries.
