Ukrainians are increasingly turning to social networks, especially Telegram, to obtain news in hostilities. This is evidenced by the results of the study "Ukrainian Media: Attitude and Trust in 2023," presented by the deputy of the Internews director in Ukraine Oksana Maidan at a press conference in Ukrinform.
According to the study, 76% of adults of Ukrainians receive news from social networks, and most of them prefer to use smartphones to watch news. Particularly high interest in Telegram as a source of news appeared after a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine in 2022. In 2021, only 20% of Ukrainians used Telegram for this purpose, but after the events of 2022 this figure increased to 60%. This year, Telegram remains the main social network for news consumption with up to 72%.
The second most weight source is news sites that visit about 40% of respondents.
An interesting point is that despite the long war, 25% of Ukrainians are ready to pay for an online media, and this percentage is slowly but steadily increasing since 2021. This can be important information for Ukrainian media that view membership models as an additional source of funding.
The study "Ukrainian Media: Attitude and Trust in 2023" was conducted by Inmind research company at the request of an international non -profit Internews organization, which implements a "media program in Ukraine" with the financial support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The study covered 3250 interviews with men and women aged 18 to 65.
