Historic event in Spain: A person with Down syndrome was elected as a member of parliament

In Spanish Valencia, a deputy with Down syndrome was first chosen, which became an example of true inclusion. Mar Halcesran is recognized as the first person with a genetic deviation that has fallen into the European Regional or National Parliament. Her election is considered a "huge step forward" and illustration of real inclusion.

Being engaged in politics from the age of 18, Mar Halcesran joined the Conservative People's Party of Spain. She expresses her hope that she will be perceived as a person, not because of his disability.

Her election was supported by colleagues and activists, considering it as a wonderful news to overcome barriers in politics. The President of the Regional Government Valencia Carlos Mason called it "wonderful news for politics, overcoming barriers." The organization of people with Down syndrome in Spain greeted this step as a huge progress and an indicator of true inclusion.

This stage of Down syndrome history in Spain follows similar events, such as the release of the world's first Barbie doll with Down syndrome Mattel, aimed at combating the stigmatization and expanding children about beauty.
