ISW - Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Veliky Potemkin Island

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (Armed Forces) performed a successful operation on the left bank of the Dnieper River, liberating the island of the Great Potemkin, located southwest of Kherson. The information about this was published by the Institute for War Study (ISW).

According to tactical estimates, the control of the island of the Great Potemkin is of great strategic importance for Ukraine, providing control over the shred of land in the middle of the Dnieper in Kherson region.

The Institute of War Study points out that, despite the fact that the Russian Milbloger claims that the Ukrainian forces have seized new positions on the island, ISW believes that the Ukrainian forces are already fully controling the entire island.

On December 10, the Armed Forces continued ground operations on the eastern (left) bank of the Kherson region. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that they keep positions on the east bank of the Dnieper River and strike Russian positions in the area.

An important purpose for the Armed Forces on the island is the enemy's artillery to prevent the right bank of the Dnieper. The island, named after the favorite of the Russian Empress Catherine II, Prince Grigory Potemkin, is located directly in the Dnipro Delta, dividing its river in two and has an area of about 25 square kilometers.

To the north of the island is Kherson, which was liberated from the Russians on November 11, and to the south - the town of the naked pier remains under the occupation.

This new achievement of the Armed Forces is an important step in controlling the territory and security on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region. Further development and reaction of the international community remain a major question.
