The Italian government has officially confirmed that it did not intend to join a military mission in Ukraine that could support a potential peace agreement with Russia.
This was stated following the virtual meeting of the Coalition of those organized by the UK Prime Minister Kir Star. Italian Prime Minister George Meloni took part in it. The government of the country emphasized the need for just and long peace as a guarantee of future sovereignty and security of Ukraine. Italy will continue working with the EU, the US and international partners to create effective security guarantees for Ukraine. The departure of the Italian military contingent is not considered. "Prime Minister Meloni has confirmed that Italy intends to work on reliable security guarantees with Western allies, but no participation in the military forces is planned," the government said in an official statement.
Thus, Italy remains a reliable partner of Kiev, but avoids direct military involvement.
