With Western help, Ukraine will be able to intercept the offensive initiative, - William Burns

Ukraine will be able to intercept an offensive initiative on the front by the end of this year or the beginning of next year if the United States unfreezes its aid, CIA Director William Burns said at a hearing in the Senate Intelligence Committee.

He said that he recently returned from Ukraine and is sure that "now we are at a very important crossroads" for Ukraine, European security and American interests in the world in the long term.

Burns believes that if Congress approves additional aid to Ukraine, there is a "real opportunity to secure a strategic success for Ukraine and a strategic defeat for Putin's Russia."

"With additional help, Ukraine at the end of 2024 - beginning of 2025 may find itself in a situation where it can seize the offensive initiative and conduct negotiations from a position of strength," Burns said.

And without allocating aid, Ukraine may lose large territories already this year, and the world will see "more Avdiyevoks".

He called the Senate's refusal of additional aid to Ukraine "a huge and historic mistake for the United States."
