Israel makes a proposal to temporarily suspend combat in the Gaza sector for at least a week under a new agreement through Qatar. The main purpose of such suspension is the release of more than 30 hostages held by Hamas terrorist group.
According to AXIOS, this Israeli proposal is the first after the break of the agreement that was reached last month and provided for a seven -day ceasefire and the release of more than 100 hostages. The agreement has not been executed, and now Israel offers a new approach.
Israeli representatives claim that this new proposal indicates the state's readiness to restore serious negotiations with Hamas to release more hostages. While Hamas expressed dissatisfaction with the recovery of negotiations while continuing hostilities.
Currently, more than 130 citizens of Israel and other countries remain Hamas's hostages in the Gaza sector. The agreement includes an initiative to release a group of about 40 hostages, including women, men over 60 and others who need urgent medical care.
The meeting of Mossad David Barnea and the leadership of Qatar took place on December 18, which discussed a potential agreement on the release of hostages. Israel proposes a temporary ceasefire, hoping that it will allow you to start a new stage of negotiations with Hamas.
