Israel released 71 Palestinians detained during gas surgery, including 19 women. They were released through the Kerem-Shal checkpoint. The reasons for this decision are not provided.
In October 2023, the Islamist group Hamas attacked Israel, breaking into its territory and inflicting rocket strikes that led to mass casualties among civilians. During this conflict, about 1,200 people were killed and another 240 were stolen.
In November of that year, 110 hostages were returned during the truce. According to the report of the Defense Forces of Israel Masha Michalson, Hamas left 136 people in Gas as hostages.
At the beginning of February 2024, the Head of the Israeli Special Service of Mossad, David Barnea, presented a plan of nine points on the possible agreement on release of hostages. This plan envisages the release of all 136 persons detained in several stages.
Meanwhile, the number of Palestinian prisoners who can be released from Israeli prisons has not yet been determined. Israel is ready to release a considerable number of persons, but leaves the imprisonment of persons responsible for serious crimes, while Hamas infuses on the release of "qualified" prisoners.
