The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, ordered his military groups to carry out mass raids in order to identify and punish all those involved in "Wahhabism". He also threatened to destroy the relatives of those suspected of extremism.
Chechen oppositionists abroad reported that after the terrorist attacks in Dagestan, Kadyrov ordered the formations under his control to conduct raids throughout Chechnya. However, Kadyrov himself claims that his actions are aimed at ensuring "public safety, prevention of terrorism and religious extremism." He declared that he would oppose the "radical ideology coming from European countries" because of the events in Dagestan.
In addition, the Chechen leader called for blood revenge. "If the suspect is connected with the devils, his entire family must be punished. This family must know that they bear full responsibility... And whoever assaults a brother (policeman) must understand that in blood revenge we will kill everyone - father, brother, uncle... I appeal to the Chechen people: know what your children are doing. You all know the symptoms of Wahhabism, if you see it, immediately report it to the precinct officer," Kadyrov said.
