On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the historical purpose of Lieutenant General Jenny Karignan as Chief of Defense of Canada. This will be the first time in Canada's history when a woman heads this important military position.
Jenny Karignan is currently performing the duties of the Head of the Department of Professional Hands and Culture in the Ministry of Defense of Canada and will be admitted to a new position since July 18. It has more than 35 years of military service experience, including command of two engineering regiments and the second Canadian Division. In addition, she led response to crisis during floods in Quebeck and served in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In his new role of the headquarters of the Defense of Canada, Lieutenant General Karignan will supervise on the operations of the Armed Forces both within the country and abroad, and will continue to work on creating an inclusive environment for all members of the military forces.
