German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed readiness for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing the importance of achieving a just peace in Ukraine. He stated this during his speech in the Bundestag dedicated to the upcoming summit of EU leaders, the Rheinische Post reports.
In his speech, Scholz emphasized the need to adhere to clear principles in the process of peace negotiations, stating that no decisions will be made "through the head of Ukraine" and without consultation with the closest partners. This shows Germany's intention to support Ukraine's sovereignty and to involve it in all key decisions concerning its future.
The chancellor also noted that countless Russian soldiers become "victims of the imperialist madness of the Russian president" every day. According to him, these people are also victims of Putin's policy aimed at expanding the territory of Russia, which should not be repeated in Europe. Thus, Scholz emphasizes not only the humanitarian aspects of the conflict, but also the critical importance of peace for stability in Europe.
