Friedrich Merz, a candidate for German Chancellor from the Opposition Bloc of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), announced his planned visit to Ukraine, which should take place in the coming days. Upon his return, the politician promises to inform European partners about the results of the trip.
Speaking in a west in Berlin on security policy, Merz urged European states to increase Ukraine's support by all possible means. In his speech, he emphasized:
"Ukraine must be maintained by all the necessary diplomatic, financial, humanitarian and even military means, because it has the right to self -defense and restore its territorial integrity. Ukraine has to win war and Russia should lose."
The politician also spoke to support the idea that even nuclear powers could be defeated in wars. As an example, he cited the Soviet Union's war in Afghanistan, as well as the United States in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
At the same time, Friedrich Merz stressed that Germany should not become a war. He emphasized the importance of the united efforts of Europe in support of Ukraine without violating the limits of international law.
