The Verkhovna Rada has an initiative to introduce a limit on the number of time limits that one person can occupy in the position of mayor. Former MP Alexander Chernenko reported about it.
Currently, the collection of signatures for registration of the relevant bill is underway. According to the document, one person will have the right to be a mayor no more than twice in life - regardless of whether these terms were in a row or a break. According to Chernenko, the bill has a chance to pass quickly if the green light receives from the President's office. He also stated that in fact the main target of this legislative restriction is the current mayor of Kiev Vitaliy Klitschko, who has been managing the capital since 2014. "It seems that the President's office has invented a new idea how to get rid of Klitschko," the Exnarade commented in his post.
Although the bill is presented as a general, its consequences can significantly affect the entire system of local self -government. In particular, other "long -playing" mayors - Gennady Trukhanov in Odessa, Boris Filatov in the Dnieper and others may fall under the impact. If the initiative is approved, the country may expect a large -scale upgrade of city leadership in the next local elections.
