Trump's team discusses ending the war

The newly elected US President Donald Trump and his team are considering different approaches to the end of the war in Ukraine. National Security Advisor Mike Volz is working on a strategy that envisages hostilities and initiation of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. However, the final plan remains uncertain, and many issues are still under discussion.

Among the options that are considered:

  • Temporary ceasefire for negotiations, which should be the basis for conflict resolution.
  • Conditional US assistance : The continuation of Ukraine's military support will depend on its participation in negotiations with Russia.
  • Delaying Ukraine's accession to NATO to force Russia to agree to dialogue.

Some of the ideas discussed suggest that Russia can maintain control of the occupied territories, and Ukraine will receive NATO membership instead. However, this proposal does not have wide support in the Trump team.

The Trump administration sounds different points of view. Sebastian Gorka, Deputy National Security Advisor, believes that pressure on Russia, including threats to Ukraine's military assistance, can force her to agree. According to him, Trump can warn Putin about the consequences of delay: "You will negotiate now, or the help of Ukraine will increase so much that the situation will become unbearable for you .

At the same time, some representatives of the administration insist on reducing the role of the US in financing assistance to Ukraine, calling NATO and European allies to take more expenses.

Despite active discussions, Trump's sources emphasize that it is too early to talk about the final strategy. It is known that Trump often changes his positions, especially in foreign policy issues. Therefore, the process of forming policy on Ukraine will probably be unstable.
