According to British journalists, the number of military personnel of the UK army has decreased to the lowest level since the Napoleonic wars.
The UK Ministry of Defense has announced a serious crisis in the country's armed forces. Over the past 12 months, more than 15,000 people have been fired from the army, while only just over 11,000 recruits have arrived in the service. Of the 15,729 servicemen who left the troops, 8 101 people did it ahead of schedule.
The Telegraph journalists reported that last week it had brought another alarming news: the number of British troops has fallen below 73,000 people, which is the lowest level since the Napoleonic wars. All three branches of the Armed Forces are undergoing staff storage pressure.
A member of the Parliament from the Labor Party and the "shadow" Defense Minister John Gili accused the conservative government of creating a crisis with a set of staff and destroying a contract with military personnel. He noted that the soldiers have poor living conditions, the moral spirit at a low level, and the number of soldiers has fallen.
The British Defense Minister Grant Shepps stated that conservatives will increase defense costs to 2.5% of GDP by 2030, support Ukraine and ensure a complete renewal of nuclear restraint forces. He also expressed doubts about the ability of Labor to ensure the security of the country.
Thus, the crisis in the UK Armed Forces becomes a key election issue, which is actively discussed by both the ruling conservatives and opposition Labor.
