On Monday, China announced the cessation of negotiations with the United States on weapons control and non -proliferation of nuclear weapons, accusing Washington of sale of American weapons Taiwan. This was reported by a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Lin Jian, according to the Washington Post.
The disruption of the negotiation occurred a few months after two countries have held their first official dialogue on this issue almost five years later.
"In recent weeks and months, despite the decisive opposition of China and repeated protests, the United States continued to sell Taiwan's weapons and did things that seriously undermine China's main interests and mutual trust between China and the US," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller called China's decision "annoying." But he said Washington would continue to strengthen the safety of allies and partners in the region in front of the face of the threats of China.
“China decided to follow the example of Russia, arguing that participation in weapons control cannot last when there are other calls in bilateral relations. We believe that this approach undermines strategic stability. This increases the risk of arms race dynamics, ”Miller said.
