The Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Van and negotiated with the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, discussing the key aspects of bilateral relations between countries. According to Van I, the parties agreed to work on a stable and mutually beneficial development of cooperation. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
Van I stressed that the leaders of the two states, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, during a recent telephone conversation reached a number of important agreements that should set the direction of development of Chinese-American relations.
The main tasks of the parties have identified:
- maintaining regular communication between governments;
- settlement of differences;
- expansion of spheres of cooperation;
- Ensuring stability and sustainable development of relations on the basis of principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Separately, China's Foreign Minister emphasized Beijing's principled position on Taiwan, saying that this region is historically an integral part of China. Van and the United States urged the Taiwanese questions carefully to avoid escalation of tension.
US Secretary of State Rubio noted that China and the US are two leading states in the world that will determine the global future. At the same time, he emphasized that American policy would remain vigilant about the challenges that he said from Beijing.
Earlier, Rubio stated that China poses a serious threat to the US, calling these challenges "the most dangerous in America's history."
